Dumbbell Plot

Compare two conditions (e.g., Active vs Torpor) across many items. Each dumbbell links the two values of one item, sorted by the magnitude of change.

Required Files

comparison.tsv — table: item column + two numeric columns (the two conditions)

Format

Row = one item (gene, pathway, sample...)
First text column: item label
Two numeric columns: values under condition 1 and 2 (column names become the legend)
Items are sorted by the difference (Value2 − Value1)
More than 40 rows are truncated to the first 40

Documentation

Input format: a table with one item column and two numeric columns; the numeric columns are detected automatically and their names label the legend.

Output: each item is a horizontal dumbbell — green dot = first condition, red dot = second; items sorted by difference so the largest shifts appear at the extremes.

Typical use: contrast pathway activity scores between Active and Torpor states in dormancy research.
